For children & parents

Kids Corner

Shows, books and channels made for Muslim children — plus the four things that do more work than any playlist.

Children copy what is around them long before they understand it. That is the whole argument for putting something decent in front of them, and it is why most of what follows is watchable rather than teachable — a cartoon they choose themselves beats a lesson they sit through.

Watch

Shows and channels made for Muslim children, not adapted for them.

For parents

Because most of this lands on you, not them.

Instagram Maeen Parenting Parenting from an Islamic frame, in short posts you can actually get through. Charity Orphan Sponsorship Muslim Hands’ sponsorship programme. The Prophet ﷺ kept the care of orphans close to him. Charity LaunchGood — orphans & education Campaigns you can browse and give to directly, filtered to orphans and education.

Getting it to stick

None of the above raises a child. These four things do more work than any playlist.

They copy you, not the screen

A child who sees you pray without being asked learns more than one who watched a cartoon about praying. Let them see the ordinary version of it.

Short and often beats long and rare

Five minutes most days does more than an hour on a Sunday. The same is true for Quran, Arabic and everything else.

Answer the question they asked

When a child asks something hard about God or death, answer that question simply and stop. They will come back for more when they are ready.

Do not make it a punishment

If Quran time is what happens when they have misbehaved, they will file it under punishment and keep it there for thirty years.
